Young people across Northern Devon are being invited to get creative and share what makes the area special as part of a new film competition inspired by the Northern Devon Place Story.

Open to anyone aged 16 to 24 who has lived in North Devon or Torridge for at least five years, the competition is looking for short films that celebrate Northern Devon through the eyes of local young people. Entries could explore everything from the area's coast, countryside and communities to its culture, creativity, businesses, wildlife and future opportunities.

The competition supports the Northern Devon Place Story, a shared vision that celebrates the area's unique identity and promotes Northern Devon as a great place to live, learn, work, visit and do business.

Participants do not need professional equipment, with films able to be created using a smartphone, tablet or camera. Entries are welcome from individuals, schools, colleges, youth groups and creative teams.

Films can take any form, from documentaries and interviews to animation, spoken word, montage, music-led films or any other creative approach that helps tell Northern Devon's story.

The competition will run in two stages. Applicants must first submit a written proposal of up to 300 words outlining their film idea, the themes they want to explore and why Northern Devon matters to them. Written applications must be submitted by Wednesday 23 September. Successful applicants will be notified by Friday 25 September and invited to create and submit their finished film by Sunday 25 October.

Entries will be judged on creativity, storytelling, emotional impact and how well they celebrate Northern Devon and support the Northern Devon Place Story.

Finalists will be invited to enjoy an exclusive behind-the-scenes tour of a professional London editing studio, while shortlisted films will be showcased at a public screening. Winners in both age categories will receive support to help develop their future filmmaking or creative careers.
