New opening season announced for The Bridge Hall

A bold new cultural venue is set to open its doors in North Devon this June, as The Bridge Hall launches its inaugural season with an exciting programme of theatre, live music and comedy.

The hall at Bridge Chambers has been transformed thanks to funding from the Department for Culture, Media and Sport as part of the Cultural Development Fund, administered by Arts Council England.

The Cultural Development Fund supports the transformation, upgrading, and creation of arts venues across the UK as part of the Government’s commitment to ensuring that everyone, no matter where they live, can access culture. The Fund aims to improve access to the arts, support local economic growth through culture, and safeguard important local cultural assets for future generations.

In Barnstaple, the funding is being used to invest in two historic buildings, supporting a programme of training and activities designed to inspire culture and creativity. The project will help re-establish the town as a thriving cultural centre by refurbishing the listed Bridge Chambers into an accessible venue for performing arts, learning, creation and performance.

Bringing together acclaimed performers, emerging talent and unforgettable live experiences, the opening season promises something for everyone — from intimate storytelling and Americana folk to stand-up comedy from nationally recognised names.

Thursday 18 June – Last Dance Saloon

The season opens with Last Dance Saloon; a new piece of theatre made in North Devon by Multi Story Theatre.

The compelling and deeply human story centres around love, longing and tango. Set against the backdrop of Buenos Aires, the production follows two people who meet at a tango retreat later in life. As a spark ignites between them, they attempt to sustain a long-distance relationship through repeated tango reunions in Argentina — until a moment of revelation changes everything.

The performance begins at 7.45pm and runs for 75 minutes, followed by an opportunity for audiences to tango themselves.

Suggested age guidance is 14+.

Tickets are £12.50 and available via www.ticketsource.com/the-bridge-hall

Friday 19 June – Small Town Jones (5 Piece)

On Friday evening, acclaimed Southwest act Small Town Jones brings its rich blend of Americana and indie folk to The Bridge Hall stage.

Known for heartfelt storytelling, soaring melodies and cinematic arrangements, the band has drawn comparisons to Bruce Springsteen and The Band. Their emotionally resonant sound captures the landscapes and spirit of the English Southwest through powerful live performance.

The concert begins at 7.45pm and runs for approximately 120 minutes.

Tickets are £15, with young person concessions available at £10, via www.ticketsource.com/the-bridge-hall

Saturday 20 June – Bridge Hall Comedy Club Launches

The venue’s brand-new comedy club makes its debut on Saturday 20 June at 7.45pm, promising an evening of standout stand-up and big laughs.

Headlining the first event is acclaimed comedian Paul Foot, known for appearances on 8 Out of 10 Cats and Live at the Apollo. Supporting him is Suzy Bennett, who has toured with both Jimmy Carr and Russell Kane, while hosting duties fall to Ben Treloar, winner of Cornish Comedian of the Year.

Guests can also enjoy drinks from The Bridge Hall’s brand-new concession bar during the evening.

The event runs for approximately 90 minutes including an interval and is strictly 18+.

Tickets are available via www.ticketsource.com/the-bridge-hall

The following week will also see The Bridge Hall become one of the venues for Barnstaple’s popular Theatrefest, further cementing its role as a new home for live performance and creativity in North Devon.

As The Bridge Hall begins its first season, the venue aims to establish itself as a welcoming new creative hub for North Devon — championing live performance, supporting artists, and bringing audiences together through shared cultural experiences.
