Nature enthusiasts across North Devon are invited to discover the fascinating world of bats and moths during a guided evening walk at Fremington Local Nature Reserve on Friday, 14 August, starting at 7:45pm.

The event will begin at Fremington Village Green, opposite The New Inn, where participants will meet before heading out on a leisurely guided walk with local wildlife experts.

Using bat detectors, visitors will be able to listen to the high-frequency calls of bats and learn more about the important role these remarkable mammals play in supporting a healthy natural environment. As darkness falls, the group will also have the opportunity to observe a range of moth species, offering a glimpse into the rich biodiversity that comes alive after sunset.

Those attending are advised to wear appropriate clothing and footwear for the weather conditions and to bring a torch.

Councillor Ricky Knight, Lead Member for Climate and Environment at North Devon Council, said: “Following the success of last year’s event, we’re delighted to be bringing the bat and moth walk back once again. It’s a fantastic way to experience the incredible wildlife on our doorstep and learn more about these species in a relaxed and enjoyable setting. A special mention must also go to the Fremington Local Nature Reserve group for their support in helping make the event possible. We look forward to welcoming both familiar faces and first-time visitors for what promises to be another memorable evening.”

The event is free to attend, open to all ages, and no booking is required. Whether you’re passionate about wildlife or simply looking for an interesting way to spend a summer evening, everyone is welcome.
