The Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon is urging community groups with interesting stories to tell to get in touch.
Following the success of last year’s call out, the museum is once again looking for local groups and organisations who would like to take part in its programme of exhibitions in its Community Gallery in 2027.
Previous exhibitions held in the Community Gallery have included a celebration of the Explorer’s Create programme from the environmental charity Earth Action North Devon, and an exhibition from the Kings Nympton Historical Society. Currently on display in the gallery is an exhibition marking the 60th anniversary of Resurgence magazine.
The museum has also recently launched the Community Corridor – an informal exhibition space for displaying photographs and other two-dimensional materials. To open this new area, the museum is showcasing the work of the Barnstaple and District Soroptimists.
Alison Mills, Director of the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon, said: “North Devon is full of remarkable stories, and we want to help bring them to life. We encourage local groups and organisations to share milestones, projects, and hidden histories that deserve recognition. By working together, we can celebrate our shared heritage and ensure the museum reflects the rich diversity and character of our communities”.
Local groups or organisations with a project, story, celebration or anniversary they consider to be of interest to the museum and communities across North Devon are asked to visit the museum website for full details and an application form. The deadline for proposals is 5pm on Sunday 12 July 2026.
All groups and organisations selected to be part of the 2027 exhibition programme will be supported throughout the process, from the planning stages through to the display and promotion of the exhibition.
