Experience nature after dark at Fremington's bat and moth walk

Bat in front of moon

Nature lovers across North Devon are invited to take part in an evening of wildlife discovery at Fremington Local Nature Reserve. A bat and moth walk is set to take place on Friday, 15 August at 7:30pm, offering a chance to witness these nocturnal creatures in their natural surroundings.

The evening begins at Fremington Village Green, just opposite The New Inn, where participants will gather before setting off on a guided exploration led by knowledgeable local wildlife experts.

Equipped with bat detectors, attendees will have the unique opportunity to hear bats’ high-frequency calls and learn about the vital role these mammals play in maintaining a healthy ecosystem. The walk will also include a chance to observe a variety of moths, revealing the hidden beauty and diversity of the local habitat after dark.

Participants are encouraged to wear suitable clothing for the weather and bring along a torch.

Councillor Ricky Knight, Lead Member for Climate and Biodiversity at North Devon Council, said: “This is a wonderful opportunity to connect with nature in a special setting. Whether you’re a regular wildlife watcher or just curious to learn more, come and experience the magic of Fremington after sunset.”

The event is free, open to all ages, and no booking is required. Whether you’re a seasoned wildlife enthusiast or simply looking for a unique evening activity, this event promises an engaging and educational experience for everyone.

Parking is available at Fremington Car Park.
