The Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon is pleased to announce the development of a new community trail on the digital platform Humap and hopes to capture the lived experiences of places in Barnstaple through the voices of local people.
As part of the initiative, the museum is inviting members of the public to contribute personal stories, memories, and reflections related to places in Barnstaple. These may include recollections of local events, significant landmarks, family traditions, or everyday moments that reflect the character and history of the town.
The aim is to create a publicly accessible, interactive trail that not only highlights Barnstaple’s heritage but also captures its evolving identity through the perspectives of its community.
Submissions can be of any length and may include photographs and suggested locations. Contributions from individuals of all ages and backgrounds are warmly welcomed.
Anita Nathwani, Assistant Curator at the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon, said: “This project is about more than mapping places — it’s about capturing the memories, voices, and everyday stories that make Barnstaple unique. We hope the Community Trail will become a living record of the town as seen through the eyes of the people who know it best. Together, we can build a map that tells Barnstaple’s story—one memory at a time.”
