Grants and Community News for 12 August 2022

The Arts Society - The Patricia May Memorial Fund – Deadline 30 September 2022

Revenue grants up to £3,000 are available to UK registered charities for projects and initiatives that provide a gateway for those that wouldn't normally have access to the arts.

The Society believes the arts are for everybody and will use the grants to make a positive contribution to people's lives through the arts.

The Society has identified 3 priority areas for the Fund:

  1. Young Arts - Young Arts programmes support a wide range of activities to introduce young people to and engage them in artistic experience and practice. This includes artists in residence, art lectures for students, funding visits to art galleries and museums; art exhibitions for young artists; equipment purchases, practical workshops, local Arts Week events, bursaries for individual students and sponsorship for craft apprentices.
  2. Skills Development - this area is about projects and programmes that further the development and training of skills in the arts, crafts, and heritage.
  3. Regional Museums, Galleries and Arts Organisations - the Society advocates the work of regional and local museums and galleries as important in connecting people with their local heritage and arts, and believes that these institutions often struggle to raise funds for projects and internships during times of budget cuts. Its grants can support special projects, displays, internship or part-time posts, training, and conservation activities. The Society will also consider applications involving regional and local theatres and performing arts spaces and groups.

Further information, guidance and an application form (there are separate forms for charity and society applications) are available on the Arts Society website.

Benefact Trust - General grants programme

Benefact Trust’s General Grants Programme supports projects that demonstrate an impact on people and communities.

Churches, cathedrals, denominational bodies, Christian charities, and schools and educational institutions are all eligible to apply. All applicants must be able to demonstrate a clear Christian foundation or ethos.

The programme typically funds capital projects, not salaries or running costs. The Programme supports the repair, restoration, protection and improvement of churches, cathedrals and other places of Christian worship where changes support wider community use and enable greater impact.

The programme also supports projects that help to tackle social issues, for example homelessness, poverty, climate change and cultural cohesion, and projects that support Christian leaders, and help to share the Christian faith.

Most grants range from £1000 to £15,000. For more information visit: Benefact Trust - Grants Programme
