Energy efficiency measures can reduce fuel bills and conserve heat, giving you a warmer home. You might be able to get help with your energy costs or to make your home more energy efficient. Grants and loans are available for homeowner-occupiers, landlords and tenants for insulation works and heating installations through a variety of schemes.
What is ‘retrofitting’?
Retrofitting is a process to enhance energy efficiency in existing buildings, particularly older ones, by addressing issues like dampness, condensation, and insulation. Proper implementation can make homes warmer, easier to heat, healthier, and reduce energy bills, contributing to over 20% of Devon's carbon emissions.
If you do not meet eligibility criteria for currently available retro fitting schemes, you can use the Energy Saving Devon Plan Builder (energysavingdevon.org.uk) to help you find out what you can do to your home to make it more energy efficient.

Financial help for your heat pump
Government grants of up to £9,000 available
Most homeowners in England and Wales are eligible for government funding to help cover the cost of installing a heat pump through the Boiler Upgrade Scheme. Most eligible households can receive a grant of £7,500, while from 21st July some homes currently heated by oil/LPG may be eligible for an increased grant of £9,000.
Your installer will apply for the grant on your behalf through Ofgem.
To qualify, you must:
- You own the property — whether it’s your main home or a second property
- You’re replacing an existing fossil fuel heating system — such as gas, oil, electric, or LPG
- Your property has a valid Energy Performance Certificate (EPC)
- The property is located in England and Wales
