Great British Insulation Scheme

The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) is a government energy efficiency scheme administered by Ofgem. 

The Great British Insulation Scheme (GBIS) may be able to offer you free or cheaper insulation to help reduce your energy bills and your property’s emissions. 

You can be a homeowner, landlord or tenant (you will need your landlord’s permission before any measures are installed).

You may be able to get support to install:

  • cavity wall insulation
  • solid wall insulation (internal or external)
  • loft insulation
  • flat or pitched roof insulation
  • underfloor insulation
  • solid floor insulation
  • park home insulation
  • room-in-roof insulation

Eligibility

To be eligible you must meet the following criteria:

If you cannot find your EPC one of our Council Approved Installers may be able to help you.

You may also be eligible if the following applies:

  • Be an occupier of a property with an energy performance certificate (EPC) rating of D, E, F or G. Find out your EPC on find an energy certificate (gov.uk).
  • Be in receipt of means tested benefits listed on Ofgem.gov.uk such as:
    • Child Benefit (Subject to income thresholds)
    • Pension Credit
    • Housing Benefit
    • Universal Credit
    • Income Support
  • Have a gross household income of under £31,000
  • Meet two of the proxies under Route 2 of our Statement of Intent (examples of proxies include homes in areas of high multiple deprivation and households receiving a Council Tax rebate
  • NHS/GP referral, households identified as having an occupant whose health conditions may be impacted further by living in a cold home which include:
    • Cardiovascular
    • Immunosuppressed
    • Respiratory
    • Limited mobility
