Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (HELAA)

Information about the Housing and Economic Land Availability Assessment (HELAA)

The Housing Economic Land Availability Assessment (HELAA) provides information on the potential range of sites that are available to meet the councils’ future needs for housing and economic development.

The aim of the HELAA is to provide sound technical evidence to support the councils' decisions about where future housing and economic development should be located.

However, it should be noted the HELAA does not itself identify which sites will be allocated for development, whether a site should be granted planning permission or determine how different areas within Torridge and North Devon should develop in the future.

Sites assessed as suitable and/or developable by the HELAA may not be considered appropriate locations for development under current or future policies of the Local Plan.

Details of the HELAA, including the methodology and the site which have been assessed can be found on our joint People and Place website.
