North Devon Council is proud to once again be taking part in, and supporting Keep Britain Tidy's, Great British Spring Clean (GBSC).

Back for its seventh year, the nationwide annual litter picking event takes place from 25 March until 10 April.

The council is encouraging its residents to attend a group clean up event or pledge to do their own individual litter pick. The Waste and Recycling department, at the district council is offering to help by providing litter picking equipment and will pick up litter collected during the clean-up event, by prior arrangement.

The environmental event coincides with the council's ongoing 'Clear Messages' campaign, that aims to combat environmental offences such as littering and asks the North Devon community to share information about litterers in order to 'Challenge it, Report it, Change it'.

Lead Member for Environment at North Devon Council, Councillor Netti Pearson, says: “I am extremely pleased that we are supporting the GBSC again this year. I am calling upon all our local litter heroes across the district to help improve the precious environment on our doorsteps.

"As a council, we are committed to tackling littering for the good of our residents and the environment. This dedicated, environmental event is the ideal opportunity to reiterate the important messages we share through our 'Clear Messages' campaign. We need our residents to help us fight littering and participating in a clean-up is a brilliant place to start.

"To register your support, please head over to Keep Britain Tidy's website. By doing this, you will be enabling them to keep track of all the good work that goes on across the country!"

Residents or groups who wish to borrow equipment or arrange for a collection of litter should contact the council by email to pete.sheppard@northdevon.gov.uk or phone the Customer Services team on 01271 327711.

Environmental offences such as flytipping or littering can be reported to the council online or by calling 01271 388870.
