Staff shortages disrupt waste and recycling collections
24 November 2020
North Devon Council customers are being advised of potential service disruption due to staff shortages in waste and recycling.
The authority has a number of crew members who have been advised to self-isolate. This means that refuse and recycling collections may not always be completed on the scheduled day, although the teams are doing the best they can to reach everyone.
The rounds that are affected the most are recycling rounds in the Lynmouth, Ilfracombe and Combe Martin areas but the crews will do their best to collect as much as possible.
Lead Member for the Environment at North Devon Council, Councillor Netti Pearson, says: "We hope people will be understanding during this difficult time, and please bear with our waste and recycling crews while they are short staffed. They are a dedicated team and I know that the remaining staff will be doing their utmost to fill in for their colleagues and collect as much as possible. We wish all of our colleagues well and hope that if they are ill, they have a speedy recovery."
If bins or recycling are missed, customers are advised to leave them out for 48 hours but if they aren't collected, to take them back in and put them out again on their next scheduled collection day alongside any extra waste.
