Another bank holiday is approaching and North Devon Council is reminding residents to make sure they know when their waste and recycling collections are due.

There will be no waste or recycling collections on Monday 25 May due to the bank holiday. Collections that week will take place one day later than usual (running from Tuesday 26 to Saturday 30 May). Collection times may also be different, so bins and recycling containers should be left at the kerbside before 7am on the day of collection to avoid them being missed.

The council is also appealing to residents to take some small steps to help the waste and recycling crews complete their rounds and stay safe during the coronavirus outbreak. Residents are asked to safely place their glass recycling in a separate container from their plastic and tins. This speeds up the rounds whilst the crews are short staffed and it means they don't have to touch so many items, giving them extra protection against the virus. Glass can be placed any suitable container, such as a bucket, washing up bowl or untied carrier bag.

Residents are also reminded about the importance of washing their hands before and after putting their bins, bags and boxes out on the kerbside to further protect the crews - and themselves - from the virus.

Leader of North Devon Council, Councillor David Worden says: “We are lucky and grateful to have many dedicated and hard working collection staff who are still going out on their rounds every day to provide an important service to North Devon's residents during these difficult times. Waste and recycling collections are always a day late following a bank holiday, but if you’re in any doubt about your collection dates you can check our website any time, particularly during the current situation where many of us find we are out of our usual routine.

"Our crews have been overwhelmed by the support they have received from residents of North Devon during the pandemic and would be extremely grateful if householders could continue to support them by taking these extra steps to help keep the crews moving and stay safe.”

You can check when your collections are due on the council's website.
