Don’t lose your voice - residents urged to look out for voter registration emails 20 July 2020
North Devon residents are being urged not to lose their voice on decisions that affect them by making sure their electoral registration details are up to date.
North Devon Council’s Electoral Services Team have begun emailing household enquiry forms to homes across the district. The form contains information about every person living at that address who is currently on the electoral register.
The email from email@example.com asks electors to confirm the voter details are correct for their property via an online system.
The annual canvass makes sure that the electoral register for North Devon is up to date, helping to identify any residents who are not registered so that they can be encouraged to do so, as well as removing any people who no longer live at that address.
Judith Dark, Deputy Electoral Registration Officer at North Devon Council said: "This year’s canvass, which we have to carry out by law, is the first time we will be using the email system. We have approximately 48,000 households in the district and for those that we hold email addresses we have sent emails. We want to reassure people that these emails are not scams, but are an important part of the voting system which should not be ignored or deleted.”
“It’s important that residents keep an eye out for these registration forms in their email inbox, so we can make sure we have the right details on the electoral register for every address in North Devon. It only takes five minutes to check the details on the household enquiry form and to confirm the details or update them online."
For households where we do not hold an email address, a form will be sent in the post. These forms will start to be posted from 25 July. Any households who have been emailed but not responded, or properties where the data we hold does not match the data held by the Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) will have a form posted to them from 17 August onwards.
Residents are encouraged to respond to the emails by 25 July, whether there are any changes within the household or not.
