Council invite residents to bat event at Bicclescombe Park
30 August 2022
North Devon Council is inviting residents to a free bat event that is taking place at Bicclescombe Park in Ilfracombe next week.
The event, which has been organised to take place on Friday 9 September, will include a talk on bats from local expert, Sam Pickering who works for the North Devon Bat Care organisation. The talk will be followed by a walk around the park at dusk to see the bats as they leave their roosts to feed.
Numbers for the event are limited and residents are being encouraged to reserve their spaces quickly if they are interested. Families of up to 6 members with children are welcome. Children under the age of 14 will need to be accompanied by an adult. To reserve a place, families and individuals are being asked to email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Lead Member for the Environment at North Devon Council, Councillor Netti Pearson, says: "Whether you're a bat-beginner or bat-expert, I'm sure this event will interest you.
"Come along and find out more from bat enthusiast, Sam Pickering in this night trail event and have the opportunity of seeing local, nocturnal wildlife in its natural setting.
"It's likely that spaces for this event will fill up quickly, so please make sure you book in advance to avoid disappointment.
"If you're successful in securing a space, please wear suitable clothes for the weather conditions and bring a touch and bat detector if you have one. Bat detectors will be available on the evening of the event if you're interested in borrowing one."
Families and individuals who secure a space are being asked to meet at Bicclescombe Mill Tea Room at 7pm.
Refreshments will be available at the tea rooms for purchase during the event.
