North Devon Council is running a survey on how to ensure people feel safe in Barnstaple, and it is inviting residents to have their say on improvements that could be made to safety measures in the town.

The Government recently announced that it will be making funding opportunities available to successful public bodies to improve feelings of safety in towns around the England and Wales. The council and partners will use the information from this survey to bid for funding as these opportunities become available.

Barnstaple Town Centre Manager, Hannah Harrington says: "We are hopeful that we will secure funding in order to ensure Barnstaple is a place everyone enjoys and feels safe in. This may be through practical fixes, such as better CCTV and street lighting or crime prevention initiatives, but it could also include improving the look and feel of the town centre and educational programmes to change behaviours.

"We are keen to understand what makes people feel safe in Barnstaple, so that our funding bids can be targeted where it is most needed and will have maximum impact. The survey will take only a few minutes to complete so please take the time to get your voice and opinions heard."

The safety survey will be available to complete between Friday 8 April and Friday 22 April.
