Barnstaple Pannier Market is supporting the return of Barnstaple In Bloom in the lead up to the judging of the town.

Flags, designed by local artist Mandy Flockton, were hung in the market yesterday (7 June) in readiness for judging day which is due to take place on Wednesday 21 July. The market, which will feature antiques and collectables will be one of the many locations viewed by the judge.

Businesses and individuals are being encouraged to support the campaign by cleaning their windows, fascia boards and the pavement directly outside their premises or homes. The judging will focus on three main points; environment, community and horticulture.

Floral hanging baskets have also been added to different locations around the town including Butcher's Row and the Pannier Market to add a splash of colour and encourage wildlife.

The new Barnstaple In Bloom project will take up to three years to get fully underway with the aim to not only achieve high results on judging day but to also smarten up the town for the foreseeable future and give residents a sense of pride in their community.

Pannier Market Manager, Simon Curry says: "I would like to start of by saying a massive thank you to the very talented Mandy Flockton for creating this brilliant piece of art which has been displayed in the Pannier Market. The design really is beautiful and we love the vibrancy which has been added to the market. I would encourage residents to visit the market to not only see the new addition but to also support our brilliant local traders who are here Tuesday to Saturday, 9am-4pm every week."

Barnstaple In Bloom volunteer and coordinator, Frances Bell says: "Along with Simon, I would also like to thank Mandy for designing the flags, we are very grateful for the time and effort she has put into it and are really pleased to be using around the town, especially in the Pannier Market - it's a great and very valued addition.

"If any individuals or groups are interested in doing their part to tidy up our town we have a clean up event taking place on Sunday 13 June, you can simply message us through Facebook and we will provide gloves, bags and litter pickers to you."

Any individuals or businesses who would like to get involved, donate or become volunteers for Barnstaple In Bloom 2021 are invited to email Frances Bell on frances@barnstapleinbloom.co.uk or call 07736 524514.
