Councillors pledge funding for victims of flash floods
26 October 2020
North Devon Councillors have come together to pledge funding from their individual grant allocations in order to provide a one off fund to help households affected by the unprecedented flash flooding which occurred in 2020.
The fund, to provide financial support to households who were victims of the flash floods on 17 August, is now available to those residing in the district of North Devon who do not have any home insurance to help with replacing damaged goods or property.
One of two levels of funding may be available:
Level 1: Up to £500 in cases where households have incurred significant loss of personal possessions and or damage to property or furnishings, and do not have sufficient resources to replace lost items and or pay for repairs/ refurbishment
Level 2: Up to £1000 in cases as above, but where there is also an immediate health and well being risk. The money can be used to provide any measures which will ensure the health, safety and welfare of the occupants.
In order to demonstrate insufficient resources, applications are sought from those on low incomes, namely those in receipt of Universal Credit, Housing Benefit or Council Tax Reduction.
Applicants must have logged their property on Devon County Councils Flood Online Reporting Tool (FORT) prior to making their application.
If you need assistance with registering your property as flooded on FORT please contact the council’s Customer Services Team on 01271 327711.
Leader of North Devon Council, Councillor David Worden, says: "The flooding which occurred back in August came completely out of the blue, with no forewarning, leading to much damage of goods and property. Once again, our councillors have pulled together in the spirit of community and pledged money from their own community funding grants to help those on the lowest incomes who are most in need of help. I would encourage anyone affected by the flash flooding who has no means of covering the costs of the repairs or replacements to apply for this funding."
In making your application you should have available any photographs of the flooding of the property concerned, receipts and invoices for any goods/purchases/services received and proof of benefits received.
You can apply for the funding using this link to the website.
Applications must be received prior to the 13 November 2020.
