HELP NEEDED Beaford – EARTH, WATER, FIRE! – short deadline 2nd October 2022

Deadline for Expressions of Interest this Sunday 2 October 2022

Beaford Arts is delighted to be collaborating with Lisa Schneidau (storyteller), University of Plymouth, North Devon Council and Torridge Council, Matt Biggs (film maker), Emma Welton (musician), Paula Crutchlow (dramaturg/director) and Peter Buffery (technician) on a new Arts Council England funded project called Earth, Water, Fire!

Earth, Water, Fire! Creates a contemporary storytelling show for North Devon audiences to be toured in spring 2023, incorporating folk tale, climate data, community debate, music & film.

Using personal and traditional stories, and shaped by local people, it will explore how we battle our monsters, the impacts of the climate crisis on rural lives & the nature of heroism, through Earth (farming); Water (flooding); and Fire (wildfire, activism).

We need community input to help us develop this performance piece and are looking for project participants. The project participants will attend a workshop and a site visit.

The workshops will be facilitated by:

  • Lisa Schneidau (professional storyteller)
  • Dr Claire Kelly (Senior Research Fellow & Lecturer in Quality Management and Research at University of Plymouth); and
  • Donna Sibley (Sustainability and Climate Officer, North Devon and Torridge Councils) with relevant climate change data.

Anyone over 18 can take part if they live, work or manage the land in North Devon. We would love to hear from you – a wide range of interests, areas and ages would be wonderful. In particular, we welcome farmers, teachers, representatives from environmental organisations, councillors, activists, young adults.

Certain key areas of search have been identified, in farming (Earth), Hartland & Chulmleigh, coastal (Water), Barnstaple, Bideford, Braunton, Ilfracombe, and upland (Fire), Exmoor, North & South Molton, but we are not tied to those areas at all.

If you are interested in being involved, please email earthwaterfire@beaford.org
