Friends of the Elderly – Grants for Older People

Friends of the Elderly provides grants to older people living on low incomes.  A professional on behalf of an older person in need must make the application.  Information on ‘Finding a Referral Agent’ to help complete an application can be found on the Friends of the Elderly website. 

Please note applications made by individuals will not be accepted.

Grants of up to £400 are made to older people who meet all of the following criteria:

  • Resident in England and Wales.
  • Of/over state pension age.
  • Are living on low incomes with little savings.
  • Do not fit the criteria for other funders.

Priority is being given to requests for essential items.

British Science Week 2023 – Community Grants

British Science week is a 10 celebration of science, technology, engineering and maths that will take place between 10-19 March 2023.

This grants scheme offers £500 to £1,000 for community groups working directly with audiences that are underrepresented in science, such as:

  • People from ethnic minority backgrounds.
  • People living in communities which face deprivation, including people disadvantaged in terms of education and income.
  • People with a disability or long-term health condition.
  • People living in a remote and rural location, defined as settlements of less than 10,000 people.

Application deadline is midnight Monday 7 November 2022.

Community groups can apply for one of the following grants:

  1. £500 grant to run one or more events during British Science week or
  2. £1,000 grants to run one or more events during British Science week, as well as either preparatory or follow-up activities that will lead to continued engagement beyond British Science week.

The Community Grant scheme is about helping people to engage with science in ways that are tailor-made for audiences.  Supported by UK Research and Innovation, to offer grants of £500 and £1,000 each year to help community groups to run their own events and activities for British Science week, expanding the number of people who enjoy and take part in science.

Bookkeeping; Keeping on top of the numbers – free online course

18 October 2022, 2 to 2.30 pm

This session is led by Liz Pepler, Director at Embrace Finance, an experienced charity finance professional with over 20 years’ experience in the sector.

This course is suitable for employed staff or trustees who are managing the finances of a charity or social enterprise with an income up to £1m.
