Grants and Community News for 11 November 2022

North Devon Council Community Warm Spaces Fund

North Devon Council has set up a new Community Warm Spaces Fund. The cost-of-living crisis is having an impact on individuals and communities in North Devon including those already in poverty, those just about making ends meet and other vulnerable groups.

If you are a North Devon community group, charity, CIC, Church, voluntary group or Parish/Town Council you can apply now for funding to support your work in supporting communities located in the North Devon Council area through the cost-of-living crisis over the winter period.  The project must be located within the district or be of significant benefit to people living in North Devon and the group must be legally able to carry out the activities.

Some examples may include providing a warm place for members of the community to meet and receive information and advice on budget saving tips, providing health and wellbeing support, or providing help with food.

We ask that the following principles apply for all users of Warm Spaces:

  • You will receive a warm welcome every time you come to a Warm Space.
  • You will be treated fairly and with dignity and respect
  • You will be in a safe space and safeguarding policies will be adhered to
  • Every Warm Space will be a non-judgemental place.

Applications for funding of schemes up to £1,000 are welcomed and must be of benefit to a community located within the North Devon Council area.

This fund will close in March 2023 at the latest and could close before this time if the total fund has been spent earlier.

You can apply to the fund here: Community Warm Spaces Fund (CWSF) (northdevon.gov.uk)

Recycle Devon Reuse Fund

Recycle Devon is pleased to announce the Reuse Fund, designed to encourage reuse for Devon-wide initiatives.

Awards of up to £250 per application has the potential to seed and support schemes for any individual or community group concerned with increasing the amount of reuse leading to reduced household waste sent for disposal.

If your organisation is dedicated to improved participation and awareness of reuse projects such as Repair Cafés, Libraries of Things, and clothes swap events you may be eligible to apply.

The Reuse Fund cannot be used to pay for ongoing costs, such as salaries, foodstuffs, or energy bills, but can be used for items such as PAT testers, training, posters, tools, venue hire and one-off insurance costs.

Applicants may only apply once in a 2-year period, and there is a maximum of 10 applications per financial year.  The Fund was launched in October 2022 and the application deadline is Friday 25 November 2022.

Devon County Council are evaluating applications on behalf of Recycle Devon so please contact Jennifer Cooper by email: Jennifer.cooper@devon.gov.uk or in writing to: Jennifer Cooper, Re-use Project Officer, Room 120 County Hall, Devon County Council, Topsham Road, Exeter, EX2 4QD.

The Clare Milne Trust recently introduced a safeguarding declaration for successful applicants. Please ensure that any DBS checks and safeguarding training is up to date when applying for funding.

Grants tend not to be offered to national or other larger charities although on occasion we have supported such charities in specific local projects.

In order to apply for a grant from The Clare Milne Trust your organisation should be a registered charity, preferably based within the Southwest, and directly benefitting people living in Devon or Cornwall.

The Trustees will occasionally consider an application from a CIC (community interest company). A CIC should follow the same application process as a registered charity.
