Transforming Places through Heritage Grants – Architectural Heritage Fund

This programme supports projects that will contribute to the transformation of high streets and town centres in England helping them become thriving places, strengthening local communities and encouraging local economies to prosper.  It is part of a wider initiative to revive heritage high streets in England, alongside Historic England’s High Street Heritage Action Zones.

This programme is for individual heritage buildings in, or transferring to, community ownership. They will support charities and social enterprises to develop projects with the potential to bring new life to high streets by creating alternative uses for redundant or underused historic buildings in town centres.

A range of grants are available:

Project Development Grants: up to £100,000, for capital project development costs, open now for applications.

Crowdfunding Challenge Grants: up to £25,000, to match fund crowdfunding campaigns, open now for applications.

This programme is closing in 2023. The deadline for all applications is 9 January 2023.

Funding available from North Devon Council

Community Councillor Grant (CCG) fund:

There are still funds available through the Community Councillor Grant (CCG) fund, and still time to apply!

The fund closes to applications on 31st January 2023, or when all the fund pot is empty – whichever is earlier.

To find out more about the process, and to see which Councillors still have funds available, please visit North Devon Council’s website.

The Community Sparks Fund:

Organisations and groups are being encouraged to apply for a new fund to help spark positive change in Barnstaple town centre.

The fund will provide grants for local groups, organisations and businesses to organise pop-up events, projects and activities in Barnstaple, with the aim of creating a fun and vibrant town centre experience and deterring antisocial behaviour.

There is £10,000 available through the scheme, with grants of up to £500 available for each application. Projects should have a positive impact on the local Barnstaple community and help people feel safe, with a greater sense of belonging and involvement in their neighbourhood.

Events could include making use of redundant buildings and spaces; hosting activities in the evening; landscaping or creating art in neglected areas; hosting tours, walks and discovery trails, or running programmes of paid music or street performance acts.

The deadline for applications is Friday, 16 December 2022 and successful applicants will be notified in January 2023. A second round of funding will be available in Spring 2023.

The Rayne Foundation

The Rayne Foundation makes grants to charitable and not-for-profit organisations across the UK tackling a variety of issues.

As an independent funder, they favour work which could change the way issues are tackled in our society and which could have lessons for others beyond the funded organisation.

They receive many more applications than they can fund and for this reason have a two-stage application process to reduce the time and effort you spend making your application.

They consider applications in the fields of arts, health and wellbeing, education in its widest sense, and those that cover social issues. Their focus is to connect communities, building bridges between marginalised groups and mainstream society, and to enable individuals to reach their full potential. Within these broad criteria, they have a number of areas of special interest:

  • Young people’s improved mental health
  • Arts as a tool to achieve social change
  • Improved quality of life for carers and for older people

The Foundation particularly welcomes applications addressing these issues but will consider applications in other subjects which meet our broader criteria.

Plastic Free North Devon – The Big Give Christmas 2022

Donations made to the Big Give Christmas Challenge 2022 will be doubled thanks to the Reed Foundation and ongoing business supporter Turnstyles Designs.

One Donation Twice the Impact!

Donations to this project will be matched for 7 days until midday on Tuesday 6 December 2022.

Plastic Free North Devon are raising funds for their Ocean Explorer Academy outreach project, which aims to empower young people to work for the benefit of nature and the community.  This programme encourages students to develop their skills and builds a network of support to empower them to take action on issues of their choice.

Having already secured funding from the Swire Foundation, the Badur Foundation and Holidaycottages.co.uk for the main project programme they are looking for donations through the Big Give Christmas Challenge.  This will help them take students on the final rewarding element of the project – a trip to Lundy Island – to experience first-hand the Marine Protected Area that is right on their doorstep but out of reach to many.
