The Government has provided funding to the value of £879,345 for businesses based in the North Devon Council area who continue to be impacted by national restrictions or who are just re-opening following a period of impact or closure.

This grant covers the period 1 April 1 2021 to 21 June 2021. The grants are a one-off payment for the full period.

Please note: ALL businesses will be asked to complete an application form for this grant scheme – regardless of whether you have had a recent grant award from us or not. There will be no direct-awards for this scheme.

Eligibility

Your business may be eligible if you are in one of the following sectors:

  • Non-Essential Retail - a business that is open to the public and is used mainly or wholly for the purposes of retail sale or hire of goods or services, where the primary purpose of products or services provided are not necessary to the health and well-being of the public
  • Mobile Businesses in the events / wedding sector – caterers, DJ’s, hair, beauty and photographers
  • Wholesaler
  • Breweries
  • Kennels/Catteries
  • Hospitality - a business whose main function is to provide a venue for the consumption and sale of food and drink
  • Leisure - a business that provides opportunities, experiences and facilities, in particular for culture, recreation, entertainment, celebratory events, days and nights out, betting and gaming
  • Gym and Sport - a commercial establishment where physical exercise or training is conducted on an individual basis or group basis, using exercise equipment or open floor space with or without instruction, or where individual and group sporting, athletic and physical activities are participated in competitively or recreationally
  • Personal Care – including businesses which provide a service, treatment or activity for the purposes of personal beauty, hair, grooming, body care and aesthetics, and wellbeing
  • Group Travel and Tour Operators
  • Events Industry, including supply to the industry
  • English Language Schools
  • Accommodation - a business whose main lodging provision is used for holiday, travel and other purposes

Businesses excluded from the fund

You cannot get funding for:

  • Properties in the accommodation sector but which are primarily second homes
  • Properties that are solely advertised on AirBnB
  • Non-Domestic Rate-Paying Bed and Breakfast businesses with more than 6 letting rooms – these are eligible under the Re-Start Scheme
  • Businesses that are in administration, insolvent or where a striking-off notice has been made
  • Businesses that have reached the permitted subsidy control level – please ensure you have read and understood the guidance on Subsidy Control before applying for a grant

Grants available

Could receive:

Turnover up to £7,999 or rateable value of £15k or under:  £1,000

Turnover up to £17,999 or rateable value of £15k - £50,999: £1,250

Turnover over £18,000 or rateable value of £51k and above: £1,500

Businesses in the following sectors:

  • Hospitality
  • Leisure
  • Gym and Sport
  • Personal Care
  • Group Travel and Tour Operators
  • Events Industry, including supply to the industry
  • English Language Schools
  • Accommodation

Could receive:

Turnover up to £7,999 or rateable value of £15k or under:  £1,500

Turnover up to £17,999 or rateable value of £15k - £50,999: £2,250

Turnover over £18,000 or rateable value of £51k and above: £3,000

How to apply

You will be asked to make several declarations on your application form in line with the eligibility listed above and your business circumstances.

You will also be asked to supply the following information, where appropriate:

  • UTR (Unique Tax Reference) number if self employed
  • Company Number (if applicable)
  • Charity Number (if applicable)
  • VAT number (if applicable)
  • National Insurance Number
  • Business Rates Account Number and rateable value
  • Council Tax Reference Number
  • Your most recent annual turnover if not a business rates payer
  • The rateable value of your business premise, if you have one
  • The size of business

You will need to upload a bank statement with your application:

  • All documents must include either the name of the applicant or the name of the business, address, sort code and account number
  • This must be your most recent monthly bank statement from 2021
