Recycle more - reasons for the trials
We are currently running a trial of our improved recycling service which includes:
- collecting food waste on a weekly basis with the weekly recycling
- collecting unlimited cardboard with your weekly recycling
- providing lots of education and information on recycling to get residents in the trial area to recycle everything that they can
- looking into reducing what's going to landfill in the black bins and collecting them every three weeks instead of fortnightly
- an optional, paid for garden waste collection service
The trial area covers the following areas:
- Challacombe
- Bratton Fleming
- Part of Brayford
- Arlington
- Shirwell
- Landkey
- Whiddon Valley
- Forches
- Snapper
- Stoke Rivers
- Chelfham
List of addresses in the trial (there may be slight tweaks but we will confirm nearer the time)
Together, the changes to our waste and recycling service will help us towards meeting three specific aims:
- to increase the amount and type of recyclable materials that can be collected every week
- to meet national recycling targets - 50% of all household waste to be recycled by 2020 (we currently recycle 44%)
- to reduce the cost of the overall service - we need to meet our financial savings target of at least £340,000 to protect our vital frontline services from further cuts
