What can and can't be recycled beginning with A

Aerosols

Empty aerosols can be recycled in your black/green recycling box.

Aluminium cans

Aluminium cans can be recycled in your black/green recycling box.

Aluminium foil

Clean milk bottle tops, pie trays and other aluminium foil can be scrunched up into a ball and recycled in your black/green recycling box.

Ammunition

This includes any items which could potentially be explosive, including ammunition, and could be a risk to site staff and members of the public. Household waste recycling centres cannot accept waste of this type, instead please contact your local police station as they will be able to advise you further on the disposal of the item(s). Weapons should never be destroyed or disposed of by their owners. Please note unwanted section 1 ammunition can be disposed of through another authorised firearm certificate holder, Registered Firearms Dealer, your target shooting club or surrendered at any police station.

Animal waste

You cannot take animal waste to recycling centres in North Devon.  Animal waste must be disposed of in your black general waste bin. Please wrap all animal waste carefully so as not to cause any unnecessary health risk.

Architectural salvage

Some companies will collect unwanted bricks, roof tiles, wood, copper, brass, fire places, radiators etc. This can also be taken to a recycling centre.

Asbestos

Asbestos waste can be taken to your local recycling centre.  Please see Devon County Council's guidance on asbestos disposal for further information.

Ash

Wood ash can be a useful addition for home composting if you have a composter. Cooled ash would otherwise have to go in your black general waste bin.

Ash from coal or anthracite should be put in your black general waste bin since it has little or no nutritional benefit and is potentially harmful to soil, plants and consumers of edible produce.
