Affordable housing

Housing enabling
Making housing affordable for local people
North Devon Council has identified housing in it's Corporate Business Plan (pdf 719 kB)
We aim to secure houses in two ways:
- through developers under the planning system
- affordable housing secured with grant
North Devon Council works with Exmoor National Park on the Rural Housing Project
Affordable housing is built to sustainable code 3 which means that the housing generates lower water and heating bills as well as being more energy efficient.
Local Lend a Hand Scheme with Lloyds Bank
North Devon Council have backed the Local Lend a Hand Scheme with Lloyds with a view to helping first time buyers onto the housing ladder. Many households could afford monthly mortgage payments but aren't in a position to save up such a huge deposit, especially not whilst privately renting. This scheme allows first time buyers to put down just a 5% deposit but enables them to get the same interest rates as a higher deposit would enable. Any interested applicants should contact Lloyds directly to ensure the postcode is solely dealt with by North Devon District Council and to undergo the necessary credit checks to ensure they can afford the repayments on the 95% mortgage. They must be a first time buyer and live in it as their main residence.
