The Communications service supports the council by creating a positive image of the district through promoting the successes and achievements of the council and its partners. It is committed to keeping residents well informed about the actions, activities and policies of the authority.

The communications service:
- issues regular press releases to the local, regional, national and trade press
- responds to enquiries from the media in a timely and accurate fashion
- writes and produces North Devon Direct the newspaper for residents of North Devon
- plays an instrumental role in internal communications with the authority’s staff helping to boost morale within the council
- provides advice to staff and members, where appropriate, on handling media interviews and enquiries
