Museum Strengthens Links with Education
Teachers and other people associated with learning are wanted by the Museum of Barnstaple and North Devon to take part in a special project. A new forum is being set up which aims to strengthen the Museum's links to schools, colleges and other people and organisations interested in teaching and learning. The idea is to highlight the educational opportunities available through the North Devon District Council Museums Service and encourage wider use of the Museum's resources to complement the national curriculum.
The Museum's Heritage Access Officer Julian Vayne says: "We want to create a vibrant partnership between the museums in North Devon and local education providers. We want to emphasise that there is more to museums than history - our collections and resources can be used in all sorts of areas such as information technology, maths, biology, citizenship and many more."
Lead Member for Culture Councillor David Butt says: "This project provides a real wealth of educational opportunities. As a teacher myself, I can appreciate how much benefit it will bring to the learning experience and I hope lots of people will come on board."
Letters will be sent out to all Head Teachers and other education leaders across North Devon inviting them to attend the first forum event in November.
Anyone interested in attending should contact Julian by calling 01271 346747 or e-mail julian.vayne@northdevon.gov.uk .
