A day of family fun is planned at Bicclescombe Park in Ilfracombe next week.

The annual open day takes place on Wednesday 15 August from 11am to 3pm and is part of a host of summer activities organised by North Devon Council's parks, leisure and culture team.

Visitors will be able to take part in a variety of free activities which include:
  • art and craft activities with Mrs Recycle
  • Exmoor Zoo animals and falconry displays
  • tennis taster sessions with Ilfracombe Tennis Club
  • bouncy castle obstacle course
  • duck race and model boat club display
  • Olympic themed activities
A highlight of the day will be the flag raising ceremony at midday, to celebrate the park's 9th Green Flag for excellence.

Executive Member for Culture, Councillor Derrick Spear, says: "This is always a very popular event for Bicclescombe Park as there are so many free activities for all to enjoy. If you haven't been to the park before, this would be a great day to pay it your first visit."

Local Ward Member, Councillor Geoff Fowler, says: "One of the highlights for the school holidays for our younger folk, come along and be part of a great day out in beautiful surroundings."

Local Ward Member, Councillor Philip Webb, says: "This is an excellent opportunity for the local community to have a great day in the open air. Bicclescombe Park is the perfect venue with lots of different activities available as well as the Mill Tea Room offering a wide range of refreshments."
