A Barnstaple park is being spruced up later this month, with a new fence around its play area.

North Devon Council is using Section 106 money to replace the fence that surrounds the childrens' play area in Pilton park.

The new fence will be installed on Monday 25 June and visitors to the park are asked to take care while the work is being carried out.

Pilton ward member, Councillor Mair Manuel, says: "The park is a very well used Pilton gem, and to be able to improve its facilities for the benefit of young families from the area, as suggested during the public consultation day we held, is excellent."

Pilton ward member, Councillor Brian Greenslade, says: "The park is a very popular resource, not just for Pilton residents, but for those who live nearby in Yeo Vale for example. This investment by North Devon Council will be very welcome."

Executive Member for Culture, Councillor Derrick Spear, says: "This is one of many small projects that we have been able to carry out with the use of Section 106 money. It is good to see local communities benefit from the funds."

Section 106 is money that has come from contributions made by developers as part of the conditions of their planning permission in order to give something back to the community.
