New research into North Devon’s housing market has just been revealed.

Housing Vision, a specialist in housing market analysis, explained the results of an assessment of the area’s housing needs at a meeting for stakeholders at Caddsdown Business Park, Bideford last week.

The Housing Market Assessment looks at the housing needs of the Northern Peninsula over the next 20 years, which includes North Devon, Torridge, North Cornwall, West Somerset and Exmoor National Park.

It will tell local councils, landowners, agents and other stakeholders what type of houses should be built, and the needs of local housing sub-markets, in order to meet the changing needs of the community.

Councillors and staff from North Devon Council’s housing and planning teams will be using the findings of the assessment to shape the future of housing provision in North Devon.

Lead Member for Housing, Councillor Andrea Davis says: “The results of this assessment will be invaluable in determining how many houses need to be built in North Devon and what proportion of these should be affordable. It will give the Council a detailed analysis of the needs of North Devon residents both now and in the future. It will have a tremendous influence on planning.”

The report provides detailed information about the type of people who live in the area, how this might change over the next 20 years and what effect it will have on the housing needs of the area.

A summary of the Housing Market Assessment is available on the North Devon Council website.
