Strategic Development and Planning Service

Our planning pages provide information about a variety of planning issues dealt with by North Devon Council; including development control, planning policy, planning enforcement, conservation and heritage, advertisement control and building control.

In this section you can search for and download plans and proposals for development across the district; from new shopping centres to house extensions.

You can also comment online and find out when plans will be discussed by the council. Just use the links below to find what you are looking for.

Pre-Application Advice

If you are thinking about submitting a planning application, we offer a pre-application advice service to provide informal comments on a proposal prior to the submission of a formal application.

From the 1st April 2014 North Devon Council will be charging for some pre application advice.

To limit the impact of this on our customers, the charges will not be applied for the following types of applications:
  • Planning applications relating to  facilities for the disabled.
  • Planning Applications by Town or Parish councils.
  • Planning Applications by Registered Charities
  • Householder Planning applications.
  • Listed building applications .
  • Planning matters relating to enforcement.
  • Discussions with local residents affected by Planning Applications for development .
  • One meeting with the applicant following a refusal of planning permission.

Making a representation

When an application is registered it is publicised to enable members of the public and anyone else who may have an opinion on the matter to make representations concerning the application.
