
The North Devon Biodiversity Steering Group
The Steering Group meets 4 times a year. Members include:
1. NDDC – elected member
2. DCC Biodiversity co-ordinator
3. HAP Champions
4. Reps from NDCCS & NDDC Policy, Performance and Information Unit, Planning Policy Team, Community Development
Duties of the Steering Group
The prime function of the steering group is to encourage the protection and enhancement of the biodiversity of North Devon by:
1. Developing a co-ordinated approach to the management of biodiversity in North Devon
2. Maintain links with wider biodiversity action plans
3. To collect information on unlawful damage to wildlife sites liase with the police
4. Develop and monitor Habitat Action Plans and oversee their implementation
5. Provision of opportunities for local nature conservationists to work together
6. Promotion of awareness in the wider community of the importance of local biodiversity
7. Encouragement of wider community involvement in action for wildlife.
8. Monitoring of the success of Habitat Action Plans
9. Develop and deliver an annual work programme
