Housing advice and homelessness
Who can we help?
We can help people who are homeless or threatened with homelessness – giving advice on rights and options.
We can help tenants of both private landlords and registered social landlords – giving advice on rights and responsibilities. This may include liaising with landlords to resolve the dispute; representing tenants in court; advising on benefit issues; intervening in cases of harassment and eviction (criminal offences that the council has the power to prosecute).
We can help landlords – giving advice about the rights and responsibilities of landlords and tenants; help with letting accommodation; free advertising in the Housing Advice Centre.
We can offer help to people who are in difficulties with their mortgage lender and are threatened with repossession, even helping in Court to prevent repossession.
We can help with finding accommodation.
We have a series of fact sheets to give you more information about some of the things we can help with. Fact sheets are available on the following topics:

Moving home
The Housing Advice Centre also runs the North Devon housing register, open to anyone looking for affordable housing in the district. It’s a one-stop shop which gives access to the housing of North Devon Homes and other housing associations with housing in the district. The council does not own any homes but nominates applicants on the housing register to the registered social landlords (generally housing associations) who own properties in the district.
