North Devon Renewable Energy Action Plan (REAP)

In June 2002, North Devon Council (NDC) and Torridge District Council jointly commissioned and adopted a Renewable Energy Action Plan (REAP). The REAP included a renewables resource assessment and aimed to provide the councils and their communities with an action plan to develop the renewable energy potential of the area in a way that benefits the local economy and community. After publishing the REAP, NDC adopted a target of 10 megawatts of electricity or heat to be generated from renewable sources in the district by 2010.
In early 2005, NDC took the decision to review the REAP in the light of recent political, economic and technological developments relating to renewable energy at both national and regional levels. The Centre for Sustainable Energy
, in conjunction with Wardell Armstrong International Ltd
, was subsequently asked to undertake the review and to suggest a revised target if appropriate.
