Pollution

Introduction

Pollution of land, air and water is mostly caused by man-made activities and can cause harm to people's health and the environment. The pollution can be in many forms, including gases given off to the atmosphere, noise, noxious waste buried in the ground, odours etc.

Our Responsibilities

North Devon Council plays a key role in measuring, controlling and, where possible, reducing pollution from a variety of man-made sources.

We can give advice to businesses and individuals. We also have some responsibility for enforcement. We are not the only enforcement authority, we can provide guidance on who may be able to investigate a problem if it is not ourselves.
