Dog warden



North Devon Council has a Dog Warden service for the district provided by a dedicated contractor.

Our responsibilities



The Dog Warden service is responsible for dealing with:

The dog warden's working hours may be changed to address specific tasks. In general, the dog warden works 7 hours a day, Monday to Saturday within the following time bands:
  • 6.00 am to 8.00 pm - May to September
  • 8.00 pm to 6.00 pm - October to March
You can contact the warden through the Customer Service Centre during office hours. Outside of office hours, the warden may be contacted through the standby officer for a limited range of urgent circumstances during the hours of 9.00 am and 3.00 pm on Saturdays and bank holiday Mondays. There is no service on Sundays, Christmas or Boxing Days.

The standby telephone number 01271 388240 is available for emergency use only. The caller should be prepared to leave their name, address and telephone number (s), the nature of their request and its urgency. The caller should also be prepared to wait whilst the dog warden is contacted and calls them back.

Availability can not be guaranteed on any given day, but all details will be forwarded on the next working day.
