Cattle market

Work has begun to build new high quality toilets in the Cattle Market car park, behind Marks and Spencer, just a few minutes walk from the High Street. This site has been specially selected to meet the needs of both shoppers and visitors.

The new block will be built to meet North Devon Council’s Charter Standard and will have baby changing facilities, unisex cubicles, urinals and disabled facilities.

This site is within a conservation area and North Devon Council’s architects have carefully designed the toilet block with a curved zinc roof and natural stone walls so it will fit the unique character and history of the cattle market.

Seating removed from along Barnstaple’s riverfront will be recycled and reused near the toilet block.

Sections of the Cattle Market car park will be closed while the toilets are being built. Any disruption will be kept to a minimum.

The new toilets are expected to be finished by February 2009.
