North Devon Homes Ltd produced a successful bid to the government for funding to help reduce social and economic exclusion within the Forches estate. The project will seek to find solutions to the following:
- restricted access to employment and work experience
- poor basic and vocational skills and access to training
- a poor physical environment
- issues of crime and community safety
- restricted access to childcare and key services
- limited public transport
- issues of financial exclusion and a high dependency on sub-prime lenders
- limited opportunities for young people and the long term unemployed
- health and fuel poverty
- limited regeneration funds
One of North Devon Council’s contributions to the project is the refurbishment of Whiddon Valley community centre.
