What is Greensweep?

Greensweep is North Devon Council’s drive to increase the amount of rubbish that gets recycled.
Every year in North Devon, thousands of tonnes of rubbish get buried on rubbish tips that end up polluting the atmosphere. We can all help prevent this by recycling and composting much more of our rubbish and make the world a better place for many generations to come.

How can we recycle more?
There are many ways that you can recycle more of your rubbish and we are here to help you do it. Some of the things we’ve introduced to help you are:
Green boxes and bags
The green plastic box is for all your ‘dry’ recyclables such as plastic bottles, tin cans and glass jars. The green bag is for old newspapers, clothes and toys you no longer want.
Wheelie bins
Our wheelie bin scheme involves giving people two bins – one green and one black. The green one is for garden waste and cardboard and your black bin is only for anything in you rubbish that cannot be recycled – which should be next to nothing if you are recycling everything you possibly can!
After a very successful pilot project in parts of Braunton, Barnstaple and Ilfracombe, we are now rolling out wheelie bins to a large part of the rest of the district.
Recycling pavilions
There is also a number of recycling banks dotted around North Devon where you can take your glass bottles, newspapers, tins etc.
