We are keen to help you recycle as much of your waste as possible. As well as your usual domestic rubbish and recycling collections, we can offer you information and advice on the following issues:
  • Home composting
  • Real nappies
  • Recycling for schools and community groups
  • Other tips on how to reduce, reuse and recycle

Home composting

Composting at home is one of the easiest, most effective and environmentally-friendly ways of recycling kitchen and green garden (organic) waste. You can then use the compost that is created in your own garden to help your vegetables and flowers grow.

If you live in the North Devon Council area, you can claim a free home composter. Just contact us for more information.

Real nappies

We are keen to promote the use of real nappies in the district, by highlighting how easy they are to use and clean, as well as the benefits to the environment.

Using real nappies instead of disposables could halve the amount of rubbish you put in your black wheelie bin. This means less waste going to landfill and a kinder option for our planet. They could also save you up to £500 per child, compared to if you use disposables.

Once again, the Recycle Devonexternal website website gives further details.

Recycling for schools and community groups

We can help advise schools and other community groups on a variety of opportunities that are open to them. This could be by discussing ways to make groups more sustainable (such as composting, recycling and eco projects), as well as looking at available grants.

We work closely with waste educators Resource Futuresexternal website to provide this service. They can also provide a range of workshops to schools, linked to the National Curriculum.

You can also contact our Recycling Officer who will be happy to discuss any of these issues with you. They can also give you general advice on other ways you can reduce, reuse and recycle.
