Making a Representation

When an application is registered it is publicised to enable members of the public and anyone else who may have a opinion on the matter to make representations concerning the application.

The publicising of applications in the press, site notices and neighbour notification all include set time limits for the receipt of representations. It may not be possible to take into account those representations received after the set period.

The Council will take into account any comments validly received but only in so far as they relate to planning matters.

The fact that a letter of objection is received does not mean that the application will automatically be refused. Many planning decisions are about balancing different considerations. The Government has also made it clear that permission should only be refused if there are clear-cut reasons for doing so.

As a further point of information, if a letter of representation is received, the Access to Information Act 1985 requires the Council to allow anyone, including the applicant, to read that letter.

Please note that anonymous representations will not normally be considered.

Representations can either be submitted electronically via the Online Planning Service logo - Internet Explorer: This goes to an external website using the Comment link available on those applications where applicable, or made in writing and addressed to: -
