- planning applications (development control) - determining applications
- planning policy - ensuring that new development takes place in accordance with policies set out in the Development Plan (Local Development Framework)
- planning enforcement - investigating breaches of unauthorised development and taking action where appropriate
- conservation areas, listed buildings and protected trees
- advertisement control
- building control - ensuring owners and developers achieve the required standards, checking plans and inspecting building work.
