Bicclescombe Park events and activities

Easter treasure hunt 8 April 2009
The Easter treasure hunt proved to be a huge success in 2009 with a record number of around 700 people taking part. Long queues formed at the registration marquee for locals and holiday makers alike to pick up their clues and answer sheets from the Parks team. Three sets of 15 general knowledge questions were set up around the park for the different age categories and once completed people handed their answer sheet back in and each child was given a creme egg. Unfortunately, these eggs soon ran out and the Parks team had to go out and purchase some more to keep everyone happy.
There was also an opportunity for the children to take part in some arts and craft activities based on the Easter theme.
Parks and Amenities open day
Saturday 2 May 2009

The third annual open day took place at Bicclescombe Park on 2 May 2009. A crowd of over 1000 people came along on a warm and sunny day to take part in various activities and displays going on throughout the day.
There were arts and craft activities, face painting, bouncy castle obstacle course, herb growing demonstration and many other stalls for people to visit and learn more about the local area and the role the parks and amenities department play in keeping North Devon parks in top condition.
There were also displays by the Barnstaple Town Band, the Ilfracombe Majorettes, North Devon Morris Dancers, Ilfracombe Model Boat Club and entertainment for the children was provided by Dave Hendy. Children and adults were able to take part in some tennis taster sessions provided free by Ilfracombe Tennis Club. The highlight of the day however, had to be the Falconry display by Jonathon Marshall. Huge crowds gathered around the display area to watch these wonderful birds of prey flying at up to 100 miles per hour performing in their natural habitat to attack their prey.
