Absent Voting
If you are not able attend the Polling Station on Polling Day to cast your vote you may apply for an absent vote. You can have it sent to yourself or sent to another person who is called a proxy and would be voting for you.
You can set this up at any time up to a certain time before an election is due to take place. You can set it up for one election or to last until you cancel it. There are three types of absent vote you can apply for. The first is a normal postal vote where you receive the vote before the election day, this can be sent to your home address or the address you will be when the vote is sent out. Secondly you can appoint a proxy to vote on your behalf, they will be issued with a card telling them where to vote and will attend the polling station on your behalf and vote according to your wishes. The third method is a combination of the two, you appoint a person to vote by post on your behalf. This is called a postal proxy vote.
