To be able to vote at elections in this country you must first be registered with your Local Authority on the Electoral Register.

Eligibility to Register

To be able to register you are required to be a British Citizen or an Irish Citizen or Citizen of the Commonwealth. Citizens of European countries that are members of the European Union are entitled to register to vote for European Parliamentary Elections and Local Government Elections.

What age must I be?

To be able to vote you must be 18 or over on the day of the election. However when you are registering to vote, on the electoral form you must include anyone that is aged 16 and 17 as they will reach the age of 18 during the life of the Register.

When do I register?

Electoral registration forms are delivered to every household in the North Devon Area in August to October of every year. The qualifying date for people to register is 15th October. Anyone who moves to an address after this date is able to register for their new address. By law you have to register every year.

When is the Register published?

On the 1st December the annual Register is published. People should check that their name is correct and has been included. If there is an error corrections to the Register can be made.

Where is the Register of Electors kept?

The Electoral Register is a public document but can only be inspected under supervision and is therefore held only at the Civic Centre and our two area offices, South Molton and Ilfracombe.
