Local Strategic Partnership
What is a Local Strategic Partnership?
The purpose of a Local Strategic Partnership (LSP) is to cope with the complex local needs of North Devon. It is recognised that there are many issues that cannot be solved by one organisation alone. The partnership brings together key organisations to identify the priorities of the community and work jointly with local people to address them.

The LSP for North Devon
Between 2002 and 2007, the North Devon Community Alliance was the LSP for this district. It met quarterly and comprised representatives from the public, private and voluntary sectors. Its work programme was developed from the Sustainable Community Strategy.
The essential purpose of a Local Strategic Partnership is to make better sense of, and bring order to, increasingly complex local demands. The Partnership will bring key organisations and local strategies together and identify communities' top priorities and needs, then work with local people to address them.
Please see minutes and agendas.
In the early part of 2007, North Devon Community Alliance merged with Torridge Together, the local strategic partnership for the Torridge district. The new Joint LSP will operate over the two districts, driven by North Devon and Torridge District Councils, working with Devon County Council and other partners.
What will the Joint LSP do?
The Joint LSP for Northern Devon will do similar work to that of its predecessors. However, by merging it will save time, effort and resources. This is because many of the organisations that are members of the North Devon LSP are also members of the Torridge LSP. Merging the two LSPs also recognises the similarities between the two districts – socially, economically and geographically. One of the functions of the joint LSP is to work towards producing a joint Sustainable Community Strategy, which will be published in 2008.
