Guidance Notes for Applying to the Lottery Sports Fund

There are specific criteria laid down by the Government that must be applied to all Lottery Grant applications. To decide whether or not you qualify to submit an application to the Lottery Sports Fund, you need to consider whether or not your project meets these criteria;

Does your project revolve around a recognised sport, a list of which are available from the Sports Council: Tel; 0171 273 1500.

Your plan must be aimed at increasing active participation in sport and recreation for all groups of society. Applications from individuals are ruled out. The project must be for public good and community benefit, and not primarily for private gain.

You must be thinking of the right sort of scheme, lottery funding is almost exclusively for capital projects. For help with this you can contact either myself or the Sport and Recreation Unit of North Devon District Council.Tel; 01271 388433.

You must give serious thought to the scale of your project and whether it is going to be financially viable. You must bear in mind that applicants to the

Lottery Sports Fund will be expected to find a contribution towards the total cost of the project

You will need to show that there is wide support and appeal for your project, both initially and on an on-going basis.

Funding is available for projects of all sizes that can demonstrate their worth.
