There are seven assessment criteria applied to all applications to the Heritage Lottery Fund. These are:

Public benefits. The Heritage Lottery Fund aims to ensure that as many and as wide a range of people as possible benefit from access, in the broadest possible sense, to heritage assets supported them. Public benefit must be demonstrated.
Relevance to strategy. At a local, regional and national level projects will be assessed to see how they fit into other development plans. e.g Will your project have a positive or negative impact on other similar projects that are already up and running.
Quality. Quality of both design and construction is essential. Further information can be gained to help in this area.
Financial Viability. There will be a need that not only can the setting up costs of any project be met but also its ability to maintain any heritage in the long term. Partnership funding from other sources will need to be shown and the need for lottery funds proven. Value for money is the key theme.
Strengths of the organisation. The ability and experience of an organisation to manage a project while it is being carried out and following completion will be assessed.
Applying for Heritage Lottery Funding is hard work and can take time. There are several programmes of funding for different projects. For larger bids you may have to formulate a business plan so if and when you need any help please do not hesitate to give us a ring.
