When applying to the Charities Board all projects must adhere to strict criteria in order to have any success at all. This information should help you to get a better idea of the sorts of things that may determine the success of any application:
- To be eligible for any grant from the board an organisation must be established for charitable, benevolent or philanthropic purposes and have a constitution, or a set of rules, which define its aims, objectives and operational procedures.
- You must demonstrate that your organisation is financially sound and well managed enough to handle additional funds effectively.
- Show that the project is properly planned and organised, and staffed appropriately.
- Show that the budget for the project is accurate and shows good value for money.
- Show how the progress of the project will be monitored and how the impact of the grant will be evaluated in a meaningful way.
- Assure the Charities Board that your organisation has a sensible plan to secure new sources of funding if the project is expected to continue after their grant has expired.
- You must demonstrate that your organisation has an appropriate commitment to practising equal opportunities in all aspects of the project.
- Clearly explain how the project encourages the people who benefit to be involved in its running in an appropriate way.
- Explain how the project encourages voluntary and statutory organisations to work together.
- Provide assurance that the project is additional to statutory services.
